15U Ruffnecks Make Good Run at WWBA

15U Together in South Carolina

The 15U Ruffnecks played hard and well at the Perfect Game WWBA in Emerson, GA.  With a record of 6-1 in a competitive pool, the ‘Necks fell just short of advancing to the playoff round.  Indeed, it was a tough pool, as many of the games were hard fought contests.  Sammy Hill got the squad off to a good start with an outstanding pitching performance in Game 1, supported by effective relief from Justin Masteralexis.  In the second game, the Ruffnecks broke open a close 2-2 game with an offense that featured taking extra bases and timely hits from Levi McAllister.  Tommy Leimkuhler pitched outstanding baseball, withstanding an uncharacteristic 5-error inning for the 8-2 victory.  The team followed that victory with another 12-3 win that was closer than it looks.  Sammy Rosenfield pitched well, keeping the team in the game while the opponents challenged.  Jackson McChesney led the offense going 4 for 4.  The defense was outstanding in the win.  In what turned out to be the deciding game of the pool, the Ruffnecks battled against a good opponent before being defeated 11-3 in another game that was closer than the score indicates.  Skyler Bordiuk pitched a one-hitter in a 4-0 victory to put the Ruffnecks at 4-1 in the pool.  As the ‘Necks played to a 3-2 victory in Game 6, the pool was closed out by Sheets Baseball on the adjacent field.  Game 7 was a 7-4 victory.  Eric Giarnese closed out the tournament for the save, his second of the tourney.

SS Jesse McCullough

Many players contributed to the overall team success.  The top half of the lineup featured lead off man Joey Rubin, who played solid defense all week.  Sammy Hill hit in the 2 spot, while McAllister held down the 3 hole.  Andy Pelc, Trevor Neff, and Justin Masteralexis hit in the 4-6 slots.  Defensively, the Ruffnecks were led by the stalwart play of Jesse McCullough (SS), Rubin (2B), and Jack Palfrey (3B).  The outfield featured McChesney, Sebastian Mexico, Giarnese, Andy Pelc, and Sammy Hill (who also played some 3B and pitched).  Davis Cook contributed at 2B as well.  Levi McAllister was outstanding at catcher, along with Andy Pelc.  Jack Carney, Mexico, Masteralexis, Matt Fallon, Bordiuk, Rosenfield, Leimkuhler, Hill, Giarnese, and even McCullough contributed to a solid pitching performance over the week long event.  The squad returns home to finish the season over the next several weeks.
