The 15U Ruffnecks and the 16U Ruffnecks traveled together to the Music City Classic June 30 thru July 3. Each team played 5 scheduled games. Both Coaches Jones and Fredericks used the event to plan pitching and lineups for competition and exposure. The 16s (2018s) got off to an outstanding start at Lipscomb University against the Indiana Bulls. Ryan Cusick, Riley Teevens, and Billy Seidl pitched a combined limit the Bulls to 2 runs, while the offense was paced by Brodie Carey, Joe Simourian, Rory Bordiuk, and Spenser Smith. The 2018’s won their next two consecutive games before dropping an 8-7 decision at Vanderbilt University on Saturday, July 2.
Meanwhile the 15U (2019s) have played 17 games in the past 11 consecutive days, including their championship run at the 15U PG Super25 Regional. After arriving in Nashville on an early morning flight the 15s took to the field at Austin Peay University and suffered a 7-5 loss. Two impressive 8-0 shutouts followed on Friday, July 1. Outstanding pitching from Jackson Emus, Ben Mlavsky served the Ruffnecks well. The offense was paced by contributions from James Dillon, JP Olson, Ben Rounds, Jaylen Bailey, and Teddy Goss. The team played less well on Saturday, July 2 in both a 7-4 loss and an 11-11 tie. A welcome day off leads to the 16U PG Super25 Regional July 4-6 at NEBC.
Seniors at 17U WWBA
The Senior Ruffnecks are playing in the 17U WWBA at Emerson, Georgia. The national event is the biggest on the calendar for 17U teams from around the country. Henry Ennen got the team off to a good start with a dominant pitching performance. He three a complete game 4-0 shutout, compiling 10Ks and giving up only 2 hits. Both Robby Cerulle and Dylan Presnal pitched well in Games 2 & 3 respectively. Cerulle lost a no-hit bid in the 7th inning of a 2-0 shutout. Presnal pitched well in a 10-2 win, giving up only 1 hit in 6 innings, as the Ruffnecks continue to progress in pool play.
