Ruffnecks Initiate “College Tour”

Brown Coaches Address Ruffnecks

This fall, players enrolled in the Ruffnecks Fall Baseball College Prep program have an opportunity to participate in a new initiative: The “College Tour.”  The program is simple in its intent and purpose.  On specified weekends, a group of Ruffnecks players in the classes or 2019 through 2021 travel with Ruffnecks coaches to college fields in the New England Area. Once there, we conduct our own workout, by our own design.  Drill work lasts approximately an hour.  We follow the drill work with an intrasquad “Red vs. Blue” game.

On Saturday, September 16th, the Ruffnecks held the first “College Tour” in the newly turfed baseball stadium at Brown University.  Brown’s coaches were in attendance, but did not participate in the drill work in accordance with recruiting regulations.  After the session was complete, Brown coaches addressed the players and the parents in separate groups.  The session was well received by all who participated.  The four hour commitment was comprehensive, while still maintaining the developmental objectives of a fall baseball workout.

Parents get to hear and ask.

The goal for the program is to experiment with one or two additional College Tour stops this fall.  Schools under consideration include Trinity College, UMass-Amherst, and Amherst College.  The effort to include limited travel during the fall is intended to meet the demand for more information about the recruiting process.  What better way to offer some education than to see schools first-hand, practice in front of the coaches, and to ask questions of recruiting coordinators and college coaches?  28 players attended the Brown event.  We look forward to improving and expanding this initiative.

Fall Baseball Welcomes 100!

Fall Stretch!

Ruffnecks Fall Baseball began the weekend of September 9-10 with over 100 players participating in a variety of offerings at the NEBC.  The signature program is the 13U Fall Development program.  Nearly 50 new 13 year olds took to the fields for a rigorous workout of drills and batting practice under ideal weather conditions for the first session.  The program runs for six weeks, not including the long October holiday weekend.  The 13s hail from all parts of New England.  This year’s participants include folks from Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, and Maine.  We are very grateful for the interest in the program!

The Ruffnecks also run a HS Wood Bat and a College Prep Program.  The HS Wood Bat program caters to high school aged players who have not yet had varsity baseball experience.  A combination of intrasquad workouts and games provides modest developmental and game playing opportunities.  The College Prep program is for high school aged players who are at the varsity level of ability and age.  This year the Ruffnecks are experimenting with a “College Tour” program, designed to bring Ruffnecks to several college campuses in New England for a combined workout and game.  Among the schools being considered are Brown University, UMass-Amherst, and Trinity College.

Ruffnecks Fall Baseball is a weekend-only endeavor, designed to serve players who wish to play fall baseball without compromising other interests.  Many veteran Ruffnecks are busy playing other sports in the fall, which is strongly encouraged in the program.  We thank the families and players who attended this past weekend… Again, especially the 13U participants!
